Southern Command Major General Yaniv Asor decided to terminate the reserve service of Brigadier General (res.) Erez Wiener, following a serious information security offense, when he removed and lost classified documents from the Southern Command.

The decision was made with the backing of the Chief of Staff, who emphasized the importance of maintaining information security in the IDF.

An IDF spokesman said: "The commander of the Southern Command would like to thank Brigadier General (res.) Wiener for his many years of service and volunteerism, and in particular for his significant contribution during the last seventeen months of fighting in the Iron Swords War, in which he worked day and night for the security of the State of Israel.".

Wiener, head of the planning department of the Southern Command, removed classified documents and lost them in an office building in Ramat Gan. A citizen who found the documents passed them on to security officials, and that is how the incident was discovered.

At this stage, no MPI investigation has been opened into the matter, and the army tends to settle for the decision to terminate Wiener's reserve service and not take any further action.
