Ofakim police station opened an investigation more than a week ago, after receiving a report of graffiti in Arabic being sprayed on the educational center complex at Merhavim School.
The graffiti reads: "Death is approaching.".
Upon receiving the report, police forces from the station and the MHPD arrived at the scene and began collecting evidence and findings in order to identify the perpetrator of the crime - and to rule out any danger of a security incident.
Yesterday, the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, a student at the school, who lives in the Merhavim Regional Council, was located - and he was detained for questioning at the Ofakim police station.
Ofakim Station Commander, Chief of Staff Moshe Bohdana: "Upon receiving the report of the incident, we immediately arrived at the scene in order to rule out any possibility of a security incident. Our rapid investigative actions led us to understand that this was not an inscription that was sprayed for nationalistic reasons, but rather that it was a type of prank carried out by a boy who studies at school.".
""The next stage focused on efforts to locate the boy and bring him in for questioning, and after a few days we were able to locate him and he was detained for questioning at the Ofakim police station.
"We view with severity the act that led to panic among the public and the unnecessary deployment of police forces who are responsible for maintaining public safety and security in routine and emergency situations.""
