Police officers today (Sunday) located a monkey in an open area in the north, which was being kept illegally.
The monkey was transferred for further treatment and testing by the Nature and Parks Authority.
The monkey was discovered after a report was received at the Israel Police's 100 hotline about a monkey that was spotted in an open area, near a farm in the town of Dvoriya.
Northern District police arrived at the scene, located the monkey, and summoned inspectors from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
The Nature and Parks Authority explained that keeping monkeys in private captivity is prohibited and is considered a serious offense, due to the significant harm to the sensitive animal. This is because of complex breeding needs, and in particular social needs, that a person cannot provide.
Today, one of the monkeys found last week died of tetanus. The authority is calling on anyone who has come into contact with monkeys to get tested.
Last week, monkeys and lion cubs were found in several places in the Negev, which were being kept illegally.
