Continuing to design the General Staff table: Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Major General Eliezer Toledano decided, after a joint conversation, that Toledano would end his position. This was reported on Channel 12.
Toledano served as commander of the Southern Command until a few months before October 7. He recently made it clear that he would not remain in the IDF.
Toledano was the one who led the IDF's policy in the face of the threat in Gaza in the years leading up to October 7. He assumed the position of commander of the Southern Command in March 2021, and ended his position in the sector in July 2023.
From September 2023, Toledano served as head of the IDF's Strategy Department. This department, by Zamir's decision, will be closed - and will move as a division under the Planning Department.
Toledano informed his soldiers last December that he would not run for the position of Chief of Staff, after Herzi Halevi ends his career. With this statement, Toledano effectively made it clear that he would retire from the IDF upon the end of his term.
