In an assessment of the situation that existed yesterday (Thursday), Defense Minister Israel Katz, with the participation of Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Head of the IDF's Military Intelligence, Head of the Military Intelligence, Commander of the IDF's Special Operations Command, and other senior IDF and defense officials, the Defense Minister clarified that the IDF will remain at the 5 points that control the buffer zones in Lebanon, indefinitely, for the benefit of protecting the residents of the north - and this without any connection to future negotiations on points of dispute on the border.
The Minister of Defense instructed the IDF to strengthen and consolidate our hold on the posts and to prepare for an extended stay at the 5 points controlled by the IDF.

In addition, the Minister of Defense instructed the IDF to continue with strong and uncompromising enforcement "against any violation and attempt to establish itself by the terrorist organization Hezbollah, while insisting on its disarmament and terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon and its withdrawal across the Litani River.".
He ordered "to strengthen the IDF forces deployed as a buffer against the settlements on the Israeli side of the border, in accordance with the policy for protecting the borders and settlements as determined following October 7 - which states that only the IDF is responsible for protecting the settlements and residents along the country's borders.".
The minister emphasized: "Our job is to provide security to the residents of the north, and we will do so without compromise.".
