Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and member of the Political-Security Cabinet, Eli Cohen, signed today (Sunday) an order to stop the flow of electricity to the Gaza Strip - which will be implemented immediately.

They fell for the current affairs: You won't believe what you can get at Mercantile

Until the Minister of Energy's order to stop selling electricity to the Strip, Israel only transferred electricity directly to a desalination plant in the center of the Gaza Strip.

The rest of the electricity in Gaza comes, as of today, from generators and fuel.

Since Israel stopped humanitarian aid last week, no fuel has entered the Strip.

Minister Cohen's decision to cut off electricity to Gaza was made after consultation with the coordinator of operations in the territories and the negotiating team for the release of the hostages.

Last week, the Deir el-Balah municipality announced that Israel had stopped the electricity supply to the facility, but Israel claimed that the power had not been cut off and that it was a malfunction in the desalination plant.

Otzma Yehudit Chairman, MK Itamar Ben-Gvir, responded to the Energy Minister's decision to stop the flow of electricity to Gaza. "I welcome the stopping of electricity to Gaza, even though after flowing millions of liters of fuel to the Strip and tens of thousands of generators, all that remains for the Electric Company to disconnect in Gaza now is a sewage treatment plant. The Gaza Strip must be completely and immediately blacked out, as long as even one Israeli hostage is being held there.

""Israel must bomb the huge fuel depots that entered the Strip as part of the unfortunate deal, as well as the generators operated by Hamas. I am sure that the Shin Bet will be able to provide information about the exact location of the depots and generators.".

At the same time, about a week ago, the Gisha association, the Center for the Protection of the Individual, the Association for Civil Rights, and a number of other left-wing organizations filed an urgent petition with the High Court of Justice, demanding an interim order that would prevent the government and the army from stopping humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

According to the petitioners, the petition was filed following media publications according to which the political echelon ordered the halting of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as part of exerting political pressure on Hamas.
