Bus rollover: Police officer arrives at the scene - and discovers his son has been killed

The late Liron Avitan, 22, was killed last night (Sunday) when a Metropolitan bus overturned into a ditch on Highway 40 heading south - near Kiryat Gat.

Liron is the son of the commander of the Southern Traffic Police, Lieutenant Colonel Yosef Avitan - who arrived at the scene of the accident and discovered that the deceased was his son.

Rescue forces called to the scene of the accident determined the death of the late Liron, who was without signs of life and with multi-system damage.

Rescue forces evacuated 12 injured people, including a 16-year-old boy, a 29-year-old man, and a 43-year-old man who were moderately injured and 9 other injured people in light condition, to Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva.

Yoel Enki and Shlomo Zuckerman, ZAKA volunteers from the Lachish area, who arrived at the scene, said: "We saw a difficult scene with a large number of injured as a result of a bus overturning. Unfortunately, after a complex rescue by the fire brigade, the MDA teams that arrived at the scene were forced to confirm the death of a 22-year-old man who was trapped under the bus.""

ZAKA volunteers from the Lachish area treated the deceased with dignity and worked in the difficult arena to collect the findings.
