The Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister stated today (Tuesday) in a letter she sent to the Director General of the Ministry of Labor, Israel Ozan, that starting at the end of February and in accordance with the High Court ruling, dormitory subsidies for those subject to military service up to the age of 27 will be discontinued.

According to a report in Kan News, the opinion submitted on behalf of Dr. Gil Limon states that older Haredim, who were born before July 16, 1997, and received exemption from military service before the expiration of the previous conscription law, will be eligible for continued daycare subsidies due to Torah studies.

So far, the dormitory law has not been enacted, and despite promises made by Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Zur, no legislation has been enacted that would allow thousands of families of children to receive the subsidy.

In a discussion on the daycare subsidy system, Labor and Welfare Committee Chairman MK Yisrael Eichler addressed the denial of subsidies to families of conscripts designated for military service - and said: "The High Court of Justice committed a social attack for political reasons when it determined that not all Israeli citizens and not all Israeli children are equal.".

Eichler added: "We just heard that the legal advice has announced that from March 1st they will repeat this anti-social decree. Just today we had a discussion here in which the legal advice had a hard time when we talked about denying terrorists basic rights.".

""There is no more basic right than that of a mother to go to work to support her family, leave the children in daycare and receive the subsidy like any other citizen. I will continue to promote the amendment to the legislation that says that a woman's right to her work, her salary and her conditions does not depend on who she lives with. In the meantime, the committee demands that the entitlement to the subsidy continue at least until the end of the year.".

Degel Hatorah chairman, MK Moshe Gafni, responded to the attorney general's letter: "They have no problem with denying bread and milk to children whose fathers study Torah. The deputy attorney general is careful to write and specify exactly when, how, how much and why - which indicates their wickedness.".

""History will judge them for this corrupt behavior and we will do everything so that this decision does not remain and we can change it.""
