Minister Smotrich has chosen: Ilan Rom, a former senior official at the Mossad, will be appointed Director General of the Ministry of Finance

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich decided to appoint Ilan Rom as Director General of the Ministry of Finance, replacing Shlomi Heizler - who recently requested to end his position due to personal circumstances.

Ilan Rom served in the Mossad for 25 years at the forefront of the organization's operational activities, reaching the rank equivalent to lieutenant colonel. During his years in the Mossad, he commanded thousands of complex, cross-continental operations and received two Israel Defense Forces awards and the Mossad Medal.

He was one of the administrators and senior commanders who led and implemented the reform in the institution, which was a multi-system organizational and operational change.

For the past two and a half years, Rom has served as the CEO of the largest regional council in the country - the Mateh Binyamin Council. He led profound changes in the council with an emphasis on economic development, which includes, among other things, the accelerated planning and development of five large industrial zones, and led to profound economic efficiency in the organization and, for the first time, led to budgetary balance and profitability in the council despite the war period.

Ilan Rom speaks 4 languages ​​- Hebrew, Italian, French and English. He holds a BA in Archaeology and the Land of Israel and a MA in Law.

Minister Smotrich: "Given the war period and the challenges in the economy, we are hiring a director with many years of experience in leading processes and streamlining the ministry. Ilan has high management skills with proven experience in leading complex processes and deep structural changes. Ilan will contribute his experience and skills to advancing the economy and financial system in Israel, promoting growth and development anchors, working to reduce bureaucratic barriers, and streamlining the work of the Ministry of Finance in relation to government ministries for the benefit of the citizens of the country.
