Detectives from the Shefat Station in the Jerusalem District arrested today (Thursday) a 17-year-old suspect, a Jerusalem resident wearing a kippah, who was seen in online footage abusing an animal - when he threw a kitten from the balcony of an apartment in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood in Jerusalem.

A video circulating on social media shows a young man on the balcony of his apartment building abusing a small kitten. He lifts the cat high as his friends ask him to back down - then throws the cat over the balcony from the fifth floor to the floor.

His friends, who documented the difficult incident, posted it on social media. As a result, the video went viral - and many called for the young man to be arrested.

As soon as the documentation reached the police, a rapid investigation was opened, and the police were able to track down the suspect in the act, who was in an educational setting in the north of the country.

Detectives from the Shaft station arrested him in the north, and he was brought for questioning at the Jerusalem police station.

The police investigation is ongoing.

The police said: "We view any harm to animals seriously, and we will continue to act online to identify and deal decisively and uncompromisingly with these wrongful acts, which includes monitoring, investigating, and arresting those suspects who commit such offenses and spread the act online, until they are brought to justice.".
