Prime Minister Netanyahu's entourage intends to appoint Otzma Yehudit ministers who resigned - Ben Gvir, Wasserlauf and Eliyahu - as temporary replacements for the three portfolios, for only six weeks.
According to the report today (Monday) in 'Kan News', the plan is to maintain all the positions of trust of the previous ministers in the ministries, to allow Ben Gvir to easily return to the government, upon the end of phase one of the deal with Hamas and a return to war.
Netanyahu must appoint ministers to the various positions by tomorrow morning, the date on which the resignation of the Otzma Yehudit ministers takes effect. In addition, due to the indictments against him, Netanyahu is prohibited from holding ministerial positions, so the appointment of ministers is expected soon.
According to Kan News, instead of Ben-Gvir, Agriculture Minister Dichter and Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen are being considered for the position of minister at the Ministry of National Security, although neither is necessarily interested in the temporary appointment. Regional Cooperation Minister Dudi Amsalem may replace Wasserlauf at the Ministry of Negev and Galilee Development, and Communications Minister Shlomo Kari is being considered as an acting minister at the Ministry of Heritage.
According to Amit Segal on Channel 12, Minister Eli Cohen, who serves as Minister of Energy, will be appointed to head the Ministry of National Security. The candidate to replace Minister Wasserlauf is Minister Dudi Amsalem, who serves as Minister of Regional Cooperation, Minister of Justice, and Minister Liaison between the Government and the Knesset.
The head of the Heritage Ministry will be the replacement Minister of Communications, Shlomo Kari.
At this stage, the directors general of the ministries remain in their positions and no shake-up is expected at the executive level of the ministries. However, the acting ministers are the ones who will decide what will happen to the advisors and assistants of the resigning ministers.
