Smuggling attempt foiled: 300 kg of hookah tobacco hidden in the tires of two vehicles

Customs inspectors at the Begin border crossing in Taba thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 300 kilograms of hookah tobacco.

The tobacco was hidden inside the tires of two vehicles that entered Israel from Egypt.

The vehicles belong to two family members who arrived at the border crossing at the same time - and were detained for inspection by customs inspectors at the crossing.

During the inspection, a commercial quantity of 132 kg of hookah tobacco was discovered in the four tires of one vehicle and another 168 kg of hookah tobacco in the four tires of the other vehicle.

The tobacco and the vehicles were seized.

Investigators from the Eilat Narcotics and Customs Unit (YSM Eilat) questioned the suspects and the incident was transferred to the Customs Legal Department for the purpose of filing an indictment.
