A database from the National Institute for Health Policy Research shows that 19,900 children have been defined as victims of terrorism since October 7.

According to a report this evening (Tuesday) by Kati Dor on Kan News, a breakdown of the hard numbers shows that 1,873 children suffer from physical or mental disabilities as a result of various attacks.

Also, of the thousands of children recognized as victims of terrorism, 1,014 lost one or more siblings, 870 were orphaned by one parent, and 23 were orphaned by both parents.

Medical experts told Kan News that children and youth in Israel are in an ongoing collective trauma.

The data was presented at a seminar by Professor Gil Salzman and collected by Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba. "The most important thing in treating childhood and children is a treatment continuum and skilled therapists," said Professor Salzman.

Many orphans joined the circle of bereavement following the war - which required, among other things, a change in legislation.

Last week, the Knesset approved a bill on second and third reading that defines an economic envelope for the divorced wives of IDF soldiers and victims of hostilities, for their orphaned children and children of theirs.

Before the bill passed, orphans of IDF and hostilities fallen soldiers who divorced received less compared to orphans whose parents were married, even though the divorced wife of a fallen or murdered soldier is a single parent and the financial burden of raising the children falls solely on her.
