The ministerial committee appointed to implement the report of the investigation committee into the Meron disaster is inclined to accept the minority position - and the state will not expropriate Mount Meron from the Haredi endowments.
According to a report this morning (Tuesday) by police reporter Moshe Steinmetz on i24NEWS, representatives of the Attorney General's Office support the emerging decision and recently met with committee member Rabbi Mordechai Karelitz, with the aim of clarifying his position and turning it into a work plan.
The majority position of the members of the investigative committee determined in the committee's report, published in April, that the mountain should be expropriated and transferred to state ownership. "Only in this way will it be possible to deal with the deficiencies and prevent their recurrence in the future.".
Over the years, the ownership of the mountain by several different religious groups has prevented the state from properly addressing the dilapidated infrastructure - which, according to the investigative committee, was one of the root causes of the disaster.
Committee member Rabbi Mordechai Karelitz ruled in a minority opinion that ownership of the land should be left in the hands of the endowments that control it.
