Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán today (Friday) sent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a letter of support and encouragement for the State of Israel - and invited him to a state visit to Hungary. The Prime Minister: "I thank Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his warm support for me and the State of Israel. Faced with the shameful weakness of those who stood by the outrageous decision against the right of the State of Israel to defend itself, Hungary - like our friends in the United States - is displaying moral clarity and standing by justice and truth." Meanwhile, the Hungarian Prime Minister today sharply attacked, in an interview with Hungary's state radio station, the International Criminal Court's decision to issue the arrest warrants - and declared that he would ignore it and invite Netanyahu for a visit. Orbán claimed in the interview that the court is intervening in the war in Gaza "for political purposes." He added that the decision to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu for conducting the war "undermines international law and escalates tensions in the region." Orbán, considered a close ally of Netanyahu, strongly condemned the orders. "This is a shameless and cynical decision," he said. He announced that he would invite Netanyahu to visit Hungary, and promised that the orders would not be implemented if the Israeli prime minister accepted the invitation – even though Hungary is a member of the International Criminal Court and is obligated to arrest suspects who have arrest warrants against them if they arrive on its territory. Orbán made it clear that Hungary would not cooperate in this case. “We will ignore this decision, and there will be no consequences for it.”.
