MKs Ohad Tal and Moshe Solomon of the Religious Zionist Party announced this morning (Tuesday) that they will vote against MK Yisrael Eichler's dormitory law - thus the coalition lost the majority required to pass the law, which is scheduled to be presented in a preliminary reading on Wednesday.

This comes after the chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuli Edelstein, declared last night that he would not support the dormitory law or similar laws aimed at trying to circumvent the requirement for ultra-Orthodox conscription.

""I will not support the dormitory law or any law that would attempt to circumvent our relentless efforts to expand the recruitment base in the State of Israel, and to relieve the burden on our excellent soldiers," said Edelstein.

He added: "The State of Israel has been at war for more than a year, and we all appreciate the heroic effort of the regular soldiers, the permanent members, the reservists and their families. But appreciation is not enough - we must make every effort to inject additional soldiers into the IDF, and to relieve even a little of the burden on the shoulders of the regular and reservists.".

Before Edelstein, MK Dan Illoz of the Likud announced that he intends to oppose the bill in the Knesset vote. MK Moshe Saada is also considering joining. It is estimated that Defense Minister Yoav Galant will also not vote in favor of the law.

Earlier, the chairman of the State Right, Gideon Sa'ar, announced that he and his faction members would vote against the law.

MK Yaakov Asher of the Torah Banner threatened yesterday: "If the Likud splits on the dormitory law and some of its members vote with the opposition in order to harm the employment of Haredi women, we too have different opinions regarding the Ratings Law, the Corporation Law, and the Bar Association. There are also good proposals from the opposition that we can support. We have nothing to lose.".
