Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke this evening (Wednesday) with United States President Joe Biden - for the first time in a month and a half.
Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris joined the conversation.
The conversation between the two lasted, according to American sources, about half an hour, and according to an Israeli source, about 45 minutes. It came after a break of weeks - when the president did not speak personally with Netanyahu even after the ballistic attack from Iran.
During the conversation, the two discussed the possibilities of an Israeli response to Iran. Netanyahu sought to understand the American position and receive support. Channel 12 noted that this can be considered a significant preparatory step towards the Israeli move.
Present at the conversation in the Prime Minister's office were Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, his political advisor Ofir Falk, Deputy Head of the National Security Council Gil Reich, and Military Secretary Roman Goffman.
This evening, President Biden referred to a conversation he had with the Prime Minister - and said: "I spoke earlier with Netanyahu. The conversation lasted about an hour. I expressed my condolences to him on the anniversary of October 7.".
At the end of the conversation, the White House addressed the situation in the Middle East. "We are not prepared to see Lebanon turn into Gaza," the White House said. "Biden and Netanyahu discussed at the leadership level the response to Iran, with the teams already talking for the past week. We continue to have conversations on the subject.".
According to a White House spokeswoman, the conversation between the leaders was "direct and productive.".
Last night it was reported that the Prime Minister presented Defense Minister Yoav Gallant - hours before Gallant was scheduled to leave for a visit to Washington - with two conditions: that the Cabinet approve the attack on Iran - and that before the flight, the Prime Minister speak with President Biden.
Meanwhile, in a statement released this evening by Netanyahu's office, it was stated that former US President Donald Trump called the prime minister on his own initiative last week to "congratulate him on the decisive and powerful actions that Israel has taken against Hezbollah.".
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also participated in the conversation.
