Four French journalists kidnapped inSyria Last June, they were released by their captors on Saturday. Turkish soldiers found them in the Sanliurfa province, on the border between the countries, blindfolded and handcuffed, after being left there by an unknown group.
The four journalists - Edouard Elias, Didier Francois, Nicolas Hanin, and Pierre Tours - were found to be in good health.
A statement issued by the presidential palace in Paris said the president felt immense relief when he heard this morning of their release. "I share the joy of the families of our compatriots who have gone through this difficult period." Hollande noted that the four "are in good health, despite the difficult conditions of captivity.".
After Turkish soldiers spotted them, the four were brought to the Turkish town of Akcakale on the border and underwent medical examinations.
The Turkish Dogan News Agency reported that the journalists were kidnapped by jihadist rebels from ISIS - one of the largest rebel groups operating in Syria.
