First publication in Haredim 10: The police announced today (Wednesday) that they will investigate an incident from about a year ago during which an Arab bus driver from the Egged company threatened to murder an ultra-Orthodox passenger after he warned him that he had not stopped for him at the stop where he was waiting.
The driver told the passenger in response to his question: "When I get to the station, I'll stop and I'll cut off your head.".
The passenger filed a complaint about the incident with the police, but they closed the case only two days later.
Attorney Haim Bleicher filed an appeal against the police decision to the Attorney General's Office, which led to the reopening of the case.
In the appeal filed by Attorney Bleicher, he describes the incident: "My client was standing at the Yirmiyahu/Elkana station in Jerusalem when Egged bus line 65 arrived. The driver did not stop at the station and continued on his way. My client walked to the next stop and there he boarded the bus. After boarding, he asked the driver why he did not stop for him - and the driver claimed that the bus was full.
""My client argued against him that it had nothing to do with the number of people, and then the driver began to shout wildly at my client: 'You won't tell me what to do.'" At one point, the driver stopped and got up from his seat, then shouted at my client - "You won't tell me what to do, when I get to the station I'll stop and I'll cut off your head." Upon arriving at the Yirmiyahu/Argman station, the driver lifted the handbrake and opened the door of his seat as if preparing to pounce on my client.
""Needless to say, the anxiety and fear that my client experienced in these terrifying moments. My client fled to the back of the bus, and the driver returned to his seat. At the next stop, my client was forced to get off because he feared for his life.".
Attorney Bleicher to Haredim 10: "We welcome the reopening of the case and hope that justice will be served against the violent driver, who is a ticking time bomb towards the traveling public.".
