The teachers' organization announced tonight (Monday) that negotiations with the Ministry of Finance had ended successfully - and announced the end of sanctions in the education system.
According to the organization's announcement, an agreement was reached whereby teachers' salaries will not be deducted for the eight-day strike that began earlier this year. In addition, teachers will receive a one-time grant of NIS 9,600 for a full-time position, with the grant being paid in proportion to the scope of the position.
The grant will be paid in the October salary.
It was also agreed that, starting with the September salary, teachers' salaries will increase by 1,200 shekels per month for a full-time position, and the increase will be paid proportionally to the scope of the position.
Many teachers with positions will receive a percentage increase for performing their duties, such as: subject coordinators, grade coordinators, educational consultants, special education, educators, payment for oral English matriculation, chemistry teachers, 13th-14th grade teachers, and more.
The Ministry of Finance's plan to shorten dismissal procedures was canceled, as was the plan to employ teachers under personal agreements.
The agreement decided that non-teacher teaching associates would be employed in the schools for a four-year trial period, on a pilot basis. The pilot would end if the teachers' union decided it was not successful.
In addition, the salaries of managers and deputies in the upper divisions will be improved, and a minimum wage will be set for beginning managers, with the aim of making the profession more attractive.
The chairman of the teachers' union, Ran Erez, said: "I would like to thank our fellow teachers and secondary school teachers who, with determination and perseverance, participated in the struggle to advance the education system for its students and teachers, to preserve public state education, to organize labor, and to promote social solidarity in the teachers' room. Even teachers who, for one reason or another, did not cooperate with the organization's instructions will also benefit from the efforts and investment of their colleagues.".
