The extreme leftist, MK Ofer Kassif of Hadash, contacted Kiryat Shmona Mayor Avichai Stern and asked him to come and support the residents.
But to his surprise, he was met with refusal.
""Hello Avichai, I would be interested in reaching out to you, to strengthen and support you, and to see if I can help," MK Kassif wrote to Stern - and was met with a firm response.
""Hey Ofer, first of all, thank you for wanting to strengthen Kiryat Shmona, but unfortunately - before you suggest strengthening us, I ask that you stop weakening us," the mayor wrote to the Knesset member.
He added: "For years you have been acting against our heroic IDF fighters, attributing 'genocide' to them and going out against the State of Israel and against the Zionist-Jewish vision of our wonderful people, while accusing us of occupation, while every step of the land here is ours and ours alone.".
""The day you change your anti-Zionist and anti-Jewish narrative, stop harming the state of the Jewish people and stop calling our heroic fighters 'murderers,' only then will we be happy to host you in Kiryat Shmona.".
Kassif, who really didn't like the mayor's response, replied: "I stood and will continue to stand by all the residents of the bombed and burned north that was abandoned by the right-wing government, whether they are my supporters or my opponents. It's time to put an end to the tribalism that is destroying us, in which we do not act in light of principles of universal justice but rather according to the proximity or identity of each person.".
