The Prime Minister's Office responded this evening (Saturday night) to a report that US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a difficult phone call, during which President Netanyahu demanded that tensions in the region be avoided further - and instead move towards the reckless deal to release hostages with the Hamas terrorist organization and a ceasefire in Gaza.
""Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not comment on things said in closed conversations with the President of the United States. He does not interfere in American politics, and will work with whoever is elected president - just as he expects the Americans not to interfere in Israeli politics.".
It was also stated: "The Prime Minister persists in his desire to release all of our hostages, both living and dead.".
According to the report on Channel 12, the conversation between the two leaders reached a high pitch, and when Netanyahu replied that "we are making progress with the negotiations," and promised that "a delegation will leave soon," Biden angrily promised: "Stop bullshitting me!""
At the end of the conversation, he told Netanyahu: "Don't take the US president for granted.".
According to a report in Walla, senior American officials said Biden called Netanyahu both to discuss the joint military preparations of the US and Israel for possible actions by Iran and Hezbollah, but also to make it clear to Netanyahu that he was not happy with the direction he had taken in the past week.
A senior American official said Biden told Netanyahu that just last week they had spoken in the Oval Office about progress on a hostage deal, but instead Netanyahu decided to order the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
During the conversation between the two, Biden told Netanyahu that the US would help Israel defeat an Iranian attack, but then he demanded that there be no further escalation from the Israeli side and that Netanyahu immediately move forward with a hostage deal.
The American official added that Biden also warned Netanyahu that if he escalates the situation again on his own initiative, the US will not come to his rescue again.
The White House declined to comment.
