Documentation: A 17-year-old minor resident of the Territories stole a vehicle from north Tel Aviv with another person, drove wildly without a license and caused a serious accident in which a 70-year-old man was trapped in the vehicle and injured. This week, the Tel Aviv Prosecutions Unit filed an indictment and requested that he be detained until the end of the proceedings.
An illegal resident, a 17-year-old Palestinian, stole a car, drove it without a license, and caused a serious accident while fleeing from the police.
About two weeks ago, in the early morning, the police received a report of a vehicle theft from Recanati Street in north Tel Aviv.
The suspect, a resident of the Hebron area, smashed the car window, opened the door, started the vehicle - and drove it without a license and insurance towards Highway 5 east.
Police officers from the Tel Aviv North Station, who immediately arrived at the scene, were able to locate the vehicle and block it after conducting scans and operations.
In response to the officer's signal to stop, the thief increased his speed, driving wildly until he lost control and crashed into another vehicle. As a result, the thief and the driver of the vehicle he crashed into were injured, who was trapped in the vehicle and was only rescued after 20 minutes.
The 70-year-old driver was taken to Beilenson Hospital, where he was hospitalized for several days, suffering from multiple fractures to his ribs, back, and chest. Significant damage was also caused to the vehicles.
Despite his injury - a fractured sternum and a bruise - the thief got out of the vehicle and fled on foot until he was arrested by the police who were chasing him, and taken for questioning at the Tel Aviv North police station.
The suspect's detention was extended from time to time in court, and upon completion of a rapid investigation this week, the Tel Aviv District Police Prosecution Unit filed an indictment against him and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings for the offenses of illegal residence, vehicle theft, intentional damage to a vehicle, driving without a license and without insurance, reckless driving, obstructing a police officer, and actual damage.
