The kidnapping deal and the departure of Mossad head Dadi Barnea to Qatar: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forbade Defense Minister Yoav Galant from holding a meeting on the subject with the head of the Mossad and the head of the Shin Bet, and demanded that the forum convene at his place.
Netanyahu told Gallant: "You come to my discussion after everything has already been cooked. From now on, I will coordinate the forum.".
Sources close to Netanyahu said that Gallant "has difficulty accepting authority.".
According to a report by political commentator Amit Segal on Channel 12, tensions between the prime minister and the defense minister escalated after the confrontation between the two, and Galant did not attend the forum that was finally convened at the prime minister's.
At a meeting later in the evening, Netanyahu lashed out at the rebellious minister: "You are not the prime minister.".
Gallant, for his part, said that not convening such a meeting makes it difficult for the defense establishment to prepare for meetings on the most crucial issue on the agenda.
Media personality Yinon Magal quoted a source close to Netanyahu: "Galant is a puppet of the elite and the Chief of Staff. The way he behaved with the legal reform, and the way he behaves with the conscription law, that's how he behaves now with the deal. He wants to overthrow the government. He can't be trusted.".
Segal explains that in the background are not only ego struggles and distrust, but also growing gaps between the prime minister and the defense minister. While Gallant is rushing to accept the deal, as he told the families of the kidnapped on Tuesday - "We are closer than ever to a deal" - Netanyahu believes that Hamas has introduced mines into the offer that cannot be accepted, and that only military pressure will lead to an improvement in the offer.
For example, Hamas insists on a commitment from the mediators that the war will not be renewed as long as negotiations are ongoing, and demands the IDF's withdrawal from the Netzarim axis, without any guarantee that terrorists will not return to Gaza City through it.
