Deri, 27, from Tel Aviv, was a rabbi at the Jaffa Yeshiva and the son of Haim and Leli Deri from Me'ali. He is married to Rachel and is the father of two young children: Haleli, two years old, and Yinon, one year old.
His parents, Lali and Chaim, are central figures in the settlement of Ali. Lali was a member of the Binyamin Council and a public activist. Saadia Yaakov has 6 brothers and sisters - and he is the second of them.
The mother of Lee said tonight: "My Saadiya was a child who put everyone's wishes before his own. He did much more than was expected of him in every field. He was a scholar, studied for the rabbinical exams and began his undergraduate studies in teaching.".
""He studied every free minute and had a great sense of humor. An amazing father to Halleli and Linon. He was a hero in body and soul and never complained. On Simchat Torah, he was with us and enlisted. Saadia was in love with this people, loved the Torah and the land and fought for it.".
She conveyed a poignant message: "Since the beginning of the war, I have been silent, now I have a duty not to be silent. I will not let the tremendous sacrifice we made and my education made be in vain. In the name of Saadia, we demand victory and complete victory. My son did not fall on the altar of a diplomatic arrangement, but for a complete victory over the enemy.".
