Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi today (Thursday) sharply criticized the IDF's intention to reduce security forces in the city - after Passover.
What did Lipa search and search for and not find anywhere when he conducted a leaven test?
In a letter he sent to Defense Minister Yoav Galant, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, and Southern Command Commander Major General Yaron Finkelman, he demanded that they ensure that the reduction in forces would not be implemented.
"For over 180 days, since October 7, nearly 40,000 residents of Sderot have been in existential fear," he wrote. "Dozens of terrorists infiltrated our city, massacred everyone they saw, in the streets and in homes, murdered 70 of the city's residents, police officers and fighters, caused the destruction of the old police station, and left behind a stunned city abandoned by those who were supposed to protect it."
He mentioned: "The IDF and the security establishment admit that they were not there to protect them. The city's exoneration of terrorists took many days, and even after that, the city suffered and still suffers from 'red alert' warnings, rockets that manage to penetrate the Iron Dome and disrupt the residents' daily lives, and of course, threaten their lives."
He said, "As part of the effort to renew residents' trust in the IDF and the security forces, and as part of the enormous challenge of returning Sderot to an active and functioning city, numerous discussions took place between municipal officials and division and Home Front Command officials in preparation for the return of residents to the city at the end of February."
Davidi added: "About 115 soldiers have been deployed in the city, reinforcing the municipal police forces and the readiness squad, which is also widely deployed. The IDF secures student transportation, educational institutions, entrances to cities, and cultural and community centers - thus instilling a certain sense of security in the residents, and this is also accompanied by many concerns - if there is no security, we are content with a sense of security."
"In recent days, we learned of the IDF's intention to reduce its forces in the city after Passover. I would like to emphasize to you that any reduction in forces in the city sector means that Sderot will be abandoned. It is unthinkable that the IDF will again abandon the security of the residents of Sderot."
"Reducing the city's security forces means abandoning it, abandoning its residents, their safety and well-being"
Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi attacks the IDF's intention to reduce security forces in the city after Passover.
Davidi sent a sharp letter this morning to Defense Minister Yoav Galant, the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, and the Commander of Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, demanding that they ensure that the reduction in forces does not take effect.
In his letter, the mayor emphasizes what its residents have been through since October 7th and the many challenges they have faced since their return to the city about a month and a half ago.
"For over 180 days, since October 7, nearly 40,000 residents of Sderot have been in existential fear.
"Dozens of terrorists infiltrated our city, massacred everyone they saw, in the streets and in homes, murdered 70 of the city's residents, police officers and fighters, caused the destruction of the old police station and left behind a stunned city that was abandoned by those who were supposed to protect it. The IDF and the security establishment admit that they were not there to protect them. It took many days to clear the city of terrorists, and even after that, the city suffered and still suffers from "color red" alerts, rockets that manage to penetrate the Iron Dome and disrupt the residents' daily lives, and of course, threaten their lives," Alon wrote to the Minister of Defense.
"As part of the effort to renew the residents' trust in the IDF and the security forces, and as part of the enormous challenge of returning Sderot to being an active and functioning city, numerous discussions took place between municipal officials and division officials and the Home Front Command in preparation for the residents' return to the city at the end of February. The IDF secures student transportation, educational institutions, entrances to cities, and cultural and community centers - thus instilling a certain sense of security in the residents, and this is also accompanied by many concerns - if there is no security, we are content with a sense of security," added Davidi, referring to the continued shooting at the city and the lack of actual security.
