Attorney Ofir Steiner of Mhonenu filed a civil lawsuit for 120,000 shekels with the Nazareth District Court against Anan Salah, a 52-year-old resident of Yafia, who attempted about a year and a half ago - on the day of the Knesset elections - to kidnap a young Haredi woman from Tiberias in order to commit a serious act against her.

Salah was arrested, convicted as part of a plea bargain, and sentenced to 54 months in prison and 12,000 shekels in compensation.

The indictment filed against Saleh describes how he tried to kidnap the Haredi woman: "In November 2022, the defendant decided in his heart to commit a crime against a random victim. In order to realize his decision, the defendant, on the said date, changed the license plates on his vehicle, so that he would not be caught after committing the crime.

""The defendant arrived at Yehuda Halevi Street in the city of Tiberias, near the city's central bus station. At that time, the plaintiff was walking in the place. Then, the defendant decided to implement his decision and therefore decided to forcibly abduct her into his vehicle" - in order to commit a particularly serious act.

To this end, the defendant drove past the plaintiff and stopped his vehicle a few dozen meters away from her. When the plaintiff drove past his vehicle, the plaintiff pounced on her, placed his hand on her and began to push her into the vehicle with the aim of kidnapping her, according to his confession. The plaintiff understood what was happening and hurried away from the defendant. In response, the defendant pulled the plaintiff tightly by the hand and by her shirt in an attempt to get her into his vehicle, but the plaintiff struggled with the defendant, screamed, and with her determination managed to free herself from his grip. As a result, the plaintiff fell to the ground, got up and ran away from the scene.".

Attorney Steiner said after the lawsuit was filed: "The victim of the crime suffered a shocking attack, from which she is still trying to recover to this day. The attacker must take responsibility for his actions not only on a criminal level, but also on a damaging level. This will help rehabilitate the victim of the crime, add justice, and deter others.".
