A Border Guard soldier was questioned this morning (Wednesday) at the Border Police headquarters in Jerusalem, after he killed a 12-year-old terrorist who was shooting fireworks at police officers in the Shuafat refugee camp last night.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived, along with Attorney Moshe Alon and Attorney Diana Shumsky, at the Ministry of Defense offices - to strengthen the fighter.
Ben Gvir said: "In my opinion, it is shocking that the Police Investigation Department even dared to invite the fighter here for questioning, it is a disgrace. This heroic fighter did what we expect of him. A terrorist comes carrying fireworks and wants to harm our soldiers, our fighters, and sets off the fireworks.".
He added: "For the past year, we at the Ministry of National Security have been working against these fireworks. All the professionals tell me how dangerous these fireworks are. They can blind, they can hurt, they can even murder our fighters. A fighter comes and does exactly what we expect of him. It's simply the biggest scandal that they invite him here and bring him in for questioning.".
He addressed the IDF: "I want to say that the IDF is destroying the deterrence of the State of Israel, that the IDF is harming our fighters. I was sure that after the 7th of the 10th they would learn and understand, but the IDF does not understand. I want to say as the Minister of National Security, as the one in charge of these fighters, and I say these things and know that the entire Israel Police agrees with me: We will not abandon these fighters, we will support them, I will not let them be harmed.".
Ben Gvir emphasized: "I am here to convey a message: I will not let this fighter be harmed. Of course, I do not intend to interfere in the investigation by the National Intelligence Service, I cannot interfere, and I have no desire to interfere, but I am in the Ministry of National Security, within the framework of my authority - I will support this fighter. This fighter, along with all his friends, did an exemplary job.".
In the footage from Shuafat, a boy of about 12 years old is seen firing a rocket at police officers stationed in the area. A Border Police soldier fired at him. He was critically injured and later died from his wounds.
The disturbances in the refugee camp lasted for many hours and included the throwing of numerous Molotov cocktails and the throwing of explosives at the forces. After violent clashes, the rioters dispersed.
Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir already supported the warrior who sang last night: "I salute the warrior who killed the terrorist who tried to shoot fireworks at him and at the forces - this is exactly how one should act against terrorists - with determination and precision.".
