In a discussion held this evening (Tuesday) by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with senior security officials regarding restrictions on the Temple Mount during the month of Ramadan, it was determined that during the first week of Ramadan, worshippers will be allowed to enter the Temple Mount, similar to the numbers in previous years.
It was also decided that a weekly assessment of the security and safety situation will be held and a decision will be made accordingly.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir attacked the Prime Minister's decision: "The decision to allow ascension to the Temple Mount during Ramadan, similar to previous years, contrary to the police position and my position, shows that Prime Minister Netanyahu and the small cabinet think that nothing happened on October 7th.".
""This decision endangers the citizens of Israel and could allow Hamas to emerge victorious.".
Netanyahu made a statement at the beginning of the discussion: "Israel's policy has always been and always will be to maintain freedom of worship for all religions. We acted in this way, of course, during the holiday of Ramadan, and we will act in this way now as well.".
He added: "We will do everything to preserve freedom of worship on the Temple Mount, while appropriately safeguarding security and safety needs, and will allow the Muslim public to celebrate the holiday.".
The discussion was attended by Defense Minister Yoav Galant, Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Minister Gadi Eisenkot, MK Aryeh Deri, the head of the National Security Council, the Chief of Staff, the Police Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of the Prison Service and the Attorney General, alongside senior figures in the defense establishment.
