The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Thursday) with the Haifa District Court against Asher Buhbot, 49, of Haifa, for aggravated murder and aggravated injury.
This, after he murdered his wife Rachel and injured his 15-year-old son who tried to prevent the murder.
The prosecution asked the court to order the arrest of the defendant until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
According to the indictment filed by Attorney Segev Adler of the Haifa District Attorney's Office, the defendant and Rachel were married and had three minor children. Their relationship was tense and unstable, and the defendant suspected, without basis, that the deceased was unfaithful to him.
About two years ago, on December 27, 2023, based on suspicion, the defendant demanded that the deceased hand over her mobile phone. The deceased complied with the defendant's demand and handed over her phone to him.
The defendant transferred the family's cell phones to an acquaintance from the synagogue where they prayed, for custody, in order to "prevent her from talking to strangers at night.""
However, the defendant suspected that the deceased was hiding another phone and a dispute broke out between them, at which point the defendant decided to kill the deceased. He went to the kitchen, took a serrated knife with a blade about 25 cm long, and returned to the living room, where the deceased was standing with her 15-year-old son.
When the boy noticed the knife, he shouted at the defendant, "No dad, no dad," but the defendant approached Menakha and stabbed her in the chest. The deceased fell to the ground on her bruised back and called out her son's name.
The defendant bent down and stabbed the deceased multiple times, despite the efforts of his son, who screamed and tried to grab the knife in his hand, to prevent the defendant from continuing to harm his mother.
The defendant did not heed his son's pleas and pulled the knife out of his hands twice forcefully to continue stabbing the deceased, causing cuts on the son's palms, and continued stabbing the deceased with the intent to cause her death, in the neck, face, chest, back, arm and left palm.
After a while, when the defendant saw that the deceased was lying in her blood, he stopped stabbing her with the knife, got up and began kicking her in the ribs. The son then left the apartment to call for help.
At this point, the defendant took another sharp object and used it to stab the deceased multiple times in the chest and front of the neck, and also struck the deceased in the face. He did all of this with the intent to cause the deceased's death.
All the while, their two 8-year-old twin children were in their bedroom next to the living room.
The son called the rescue forces through a passerby, who found the deceased lying on the floor of the apartment, her body lying in her own blood, lifeless.
