The Knesset will begin the process of impeaching MK Ofer Kassif of Hadash, after 70 Knesset members signed a demand today (Monday) to oust him from the House of Representatives because he attached his signature to a petition against Israel that supports the complaint filed by South Africa regarding "genocide" in Gaza, and even added on social media that the government is committing "crimes" in the name of the people.
This is the first step on the road to impeachment. Now the Knesset committee must convene and determine that he be impeached - and then the impeachment must pass in the Knesset plenum with a majority of 90.
Of all the Knesset factions, only members of three factions did not sign the impeachment process at all: Hadash-Ta'al, Ra'am, and Labor.
The collection of signatures began in the morning with the chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu faction, MK Oded Forer, who said: "The words of betrayal by MK Kassif can no longer be heard while the blood of our soldiers and citizens cries out from the ground.".
He added: "MK Kassif, who was previously disqualified from running for the Knesset following a petition I submitted to the Elections Committee, chose, during a time of war, to join one of the most destructive initiatives for the security of the State of Israel, and in doing so, he supports Hamas's struggle against Israel. He must soon find himself beyond the borders of the Knesset and preferably beyond the borders of the State of Israel.".
