''The Sting of the Shpaktzim': The police announced today (Monday) that they will file an indictment against a 20-year-old Holon resident, on suspicion of defrauding soldiers of tens of thousands of shekels.
The investigation file shows that the suspect presented himself on social media as an importer of tactical combat equipment and advertised that he was able to "obtain" such equipment for soldiers, including helmets, shoes, vests, boots, and more.
The police investigated nearly 40 complaints of suspected fraud against soldiers, their families, and friends.
As the investigation developed, the police were able to uncover the fraud method and the crimes, including the transfer of funds from the fraud victims - including soldiers currently fighting in the Gaza Strip - to the suspect, for equipment that was never provided.
In one case, the suspect knew that the victim was on his way to the funeral of his friend who had fallen in battle, yet he still tried to deceive him.
One of the victims of the fraud wrote to the suspect: "I don't know how there can be people like you in this world. It's simply shameful what you do, stealing money from fighters who fight for the country. You don't have a shred of honor or values. I hope you get caught and go to jail for your disgusting actions.".
When the covert investigation transitioned to the open phase, the police arrested the suspect and his detention was extended according to the needs of the investigation, which revealed that the suspect had contacted hundreds of soldiers and their families.
Today, as mentioned, a prosecutor's statement was filed against him for the charges attributed to him, and at the end of it, his detention was extended until Thursday.
