
A two-year-old toddler was murdered this morning (Thursday) in a shocking violent incident that occurred on Haleli Egoz Street in the city of Lod - after a young man passed by and stabbed the toddler in the head. .
The toddler was taken to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Hospital in Tzirifin in critical condition, but unfortunately, after resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead.
The police have opened an investigation. The background to the murder and the circumstances are being examined.
The murder suspect was arrested by police near the scene and taken in for questioning. He will later be brought before a hearing to request an extension of his detention, along with a request for a professional evaluation.
The police stated in the initial announcement that the man who was arrested was the baby's father, but minutes later they updated that there was no family connection between the toddler and the attacker.
MDA paramedic Moshe Gelbstein said: "We arrived at the scene quickly and joined the police forces who led us to the baby, who was unconscious and suffering from penetrating injuries to his body. We immediately began performing CPR, which included stopping the bleeding, and during the medical treatment, we loaded him into an MDA intensive care unit and evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while resuscitation efforts were being carried out.".
Volunteers from Unit 360 from the Lod branch were dispatched to the scene of a murder in the city, where a two-year-old toddler was stabbed to death. The volunteers are working at the scene to collect the evidence, and will accompany the family as necessary.
