A., a fighter in an elite unit, appealed to the Military Conversion Tribunal with a request to expedite the completion of the conversion process, which began over ten months ago, as quickly as possible.
Journalist Kobi Nachshoni reported this morning (Monday) on the Ynet website that after fighting with his unit on Black Saturday in the Gaza village, he was sent with his unit to the northern region - where he applied to the military court for conversion.
At the end of last week, A. arrived at the Military Conversion Court for a hearing before three judges. In this conversation, the judges essentially determine whether the candidate for conversion has successfully completed the process and whether he can be converted. During the conversation, and after answering all of the judges' demands and questions, A. asked to explain to the judges why he wanted to complete the conversion process as quickly as possible.
In a voice choked with tears, he said: "I really wanted to come here today and complete the conversion because I know I could die in battle, and if that happens, God forbid, I want to die as a Jew. That's why it's important to me not to wait.".
After the discussion ended, A. apologized to those present for bursting into tears: "Everything that happened in the battles came out of me at that time. This is the first time I allowed myself to let out everything that had accumulated inside me since the beginning of the war. Because of everything I saw there, I realized that I had to do everything to complete the conversion process as quickly as possible.".
On the very day he appeared before the court, the conversion process was completed.
Lt. Col. Kobi Gridish, officer of the Military Conversion Court: "A's story captured our hearts. We were all moved by him as he accepted the yoke of his commandments. Since the beginning of the fighting, we have received many requests from soldiers who are in the midst of the conversion process, asking us to help them expedite their conversion process as much as possible and join them with the people of Israel. The great desire of the converts to come to the court to accept the yoke of their commandments during the fighting encouraged us to advance discussions despite the complex situation, in order to assist them as much as possible and join new souls to the Jewish people.".
