The heart is broken by the horrific dimensions of the massacre committed by the abominable murderers in the midst of the holiday of Simchat Torah. The entire Jewish people grieve the terrible pain of the families of the fallen, and pray for the return of the captives and the healing of the wounded.
We all embrace the grieving families, cry with them and share in their terrible tragedy. Our pain is our pain, our grief is our grief, and our sorrow is our sorrow. For we are one people.
In this fateful hour, there are no more tribes and camps, right and left, supporters and opponents. The campaign that the cruel enemy has decreed upon us has at once toppled all artificial barriers and reunited us into one fist. The murderous enemy does not distinguish between Jew and Jew, between those with one opinion and those with another. For him, we are all Jews, and he seeks the soul of each and every one of us (whether we are or not).
It's a great pity that we only know how to unite against the common enemy, but at least now we must immediately stop all skirmishes and confrontations.
Now we are all brothers, united behind one determined and resolute goal – to finally eliminate those who rise up against us and turn the stinging defeat into a glorious victory.
It is now clear to all of us what a satanic monster has arisen in the Gaza Strip, following our withdrawal from it. Now there is no doubt that it is no longer possible to 'contain', 'manage the conflict', 'collect a price', 'deter' – all the washed-up words we have become accustomed to.
What did we gain from all these attempts at 'containment' and 'deterrence'? We bought a very temporary calm, which the scoundrels exploited to strengthen and accumulate weapons and missiles that made the next conflict more difficult and with a broader potential threat.
Now there is no room for another 'round of fighting,' at the end of which we will be left with the same bloodthirsty evil monster, whose entire resources are directed toward one and only goal – to slaughter us. Now we must destroy this cancerous growth and uproot it from the root. The Gaza Strip after this campaign must be free of Hamas rule. And we must strive to eliminate all the despicable terrorists, down to the last one. This goal must not be given up or compromised, no matter what!
We all pray for the safety and success of our soldiers, who are embarking on a war that is both unjust and necessary. But alongside military strength, the people of Israel also need spiritual strength, which is faith, prayer, and strengthening in the observance of the commandments.
This is the time for each and every one of us to continue praying and reciting Psalms for the peace of our soldiers. To strengthen ourselves by putting on tefillin, which has a special power to bring victory to the people of Israel and deter the enemy. To continue giving charity every day, which has the power to protect and save. To check the tefillin and mezuzot, which grants divine protection over us. To buy each and every member of the family a letter in a Torah scroll.
And especially to increase the love of Israel. To speak and write only good things about one another. And we will pray to the Creator of the world that He will have mercy on us and grant us victory soon, and that the people of Israel will be able to sit securely in the eternal inheritance given to them by the Eternal Creator.
