Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri addressed the establishment of the emergency government today (Thursday) at the faction meeting in the Knesset - and called for focusing now on the fighting and leaving criticism for the days after.

""A great disaster has happened to the people of Israel, in terms of the scale of those murdered and injured. A terrible massacre. From moment to moment we understand the cruelty. Entire families were wiped out and entire communities, most of whose residents were murdered. Children, young people, adults and the elderly. There are also a large number of kidnapped people. A great disaster that no one thought or dreamed would happen.".

He emphasized: "This is not the time to look for culprits now, but to unite and fight. We as Jews know that this is a time of trouble for Jacob and that he will be saved. We believe that from this trouble the people of Israel will grow. It is impressive to see the many volunteers, the commitment, the desire to contribute. People are really thirsty to take part. This unity that we have been missing so much in the past year has returned because of this disaster.".

Deri added: "The public wanted the decision-makers to be united in this situation and, thank God, yesterday it succeeded, even if only partially. Uniting forces will give hope to the public in these days. I said in every forum I was in: Whoever wants to bear the burden, let him enter without conditions. The Knesset is meeting today to approve these appointments.".

According to him, "the entire Shas faction is mobilized for help and assistance, each in his role.".

Regarding the celebration of the Gra's birthday, he said: "Next week we are marking 10 years since the passing of Maran Rabbenu Ovadia Yosef. We planned to hold a very large event in his memory, but the situation does not allow it. Tomorrow, on Shabbat evening, we will light another candle in his memory and in memory of all the martyrs, the fallen soldiers and civilians, and for the healing of the wounded and the restitution of the missing.".
