Seven months after Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced the start of upgrading and expanding Highway 437, two lanes were opened to traffic today (Saturday) as part of the first section of the Shaar Binyamin-Jerusalem Highway expansion project.

How to enjoy the benefits of purchasing on credit without risking money or identity theft?

Highway 437, constructed by the Moriah Company, serves those entering and leaving Jerusalem from east Binyamin and residents of surrounding communities. The road is expected to significantly shorten the travel time for Binyamin residents to and from Jerusalem.

The project includes widening the road from one lane in each direction to three lanes in each direction, including one lane designated for public and shared transportation (Netiv Plus), which will significantly ease congestion on the route.

The first section includes the upgrading of a 6-kilometer road, the arrangement of traffic-signaled intersections at the entrance to the Shaar Binyamin industrial zone and the northern entrance to the village of Hizma, which will significantly improve road safety.

The project includes three phases, carried out by Moriah and Netivei Israel. The first two phases on Highway 437 and 60 from Hizma to Shaar Binyamin are being carried out by Moriah, and the third phase on Highway 60 from Shaar Binyamin to the British Police Junction is being carried out by Netivei Israel.

Minister of Transportation Miri Regev: "Upon taking office, I instructed all infrastructure companies to accelerate processes and shorten project execution times, and today we are seeing the results. Just seven months ago, we began upgrading and expanding Highway 437, a major traffic artery for those arriving from northeast Jerusalem, and today I am proud to announce the opening of two lanes at the entrance to Jerusalem that will ease traffic to the important industrial zone of Shaar Binyamin."

Israel Gantz, head of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council: "We are all working together and constantly pushing to shorten the work schedule because we understand the distress. Regulating the entrance area to Jerusalem is the first part of the work to widen the Shaar Binyamin – Jerusalem road. The tractors in the area are progressing at a good pace to widen the entire road. Thank you to the Ministry of Transportation, the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Finance and the Moriah Company."

The head of the Binyamin Council also updated that during 2024, the Qalandiya diversion project will be completed, which will allow travel between Adam and Atarot and Highway 443. The opening of the diversion will allow those coming from the settlements of East Binyamin to travel to Highway 443 without passing through Jerusalem, which will save additional congestion on the main road on the way to Pisgat Ze'ev.

Currently, the planning for the expansion of Highway 60 in the first phase from Shaar Binyamin to the British Police Intersection is being completed, and in early 2024, work will begin from south to north, that is, from Shaar Binyamin towards the Michmash Intersection and beyond.
