The government is considering postponing the elections or appointing committees in 12 Arab municipalities, for fear of interference by criminal organizations in the elections.
According to a report by Muhammad Majdala on Channel 12, the move was discussed during a discussion in the subcommittee for eradicating crime in Arab society, which convened today (Thursday) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Netanyahu.
During the discussion, the Shin Bet and the police raised concerns that criminal organizations would threaten candidates or plant candidates on their behalf, and would exploit the elections to "take over" the Arab local authorities.
During the discussion, it was proposed to postpone the elections in 12 municipalities by three months or to appoint a committee called by the Ministry of the Interior, in order to prevent the intervention of criminal organizations.
The legal counsel requested to discuss the issue in depth in order to formulate a legal position.
Several ministers present at the hearing requested the list of local authorities, but the Commissioner refused to disclose the information.
