
A 56-year-old man was moderately injured this afternoon (Wednesday), and two others were slightly injured in a stabbing attack carried out with a butcher knife at Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem.
The terrorist stabbed him in the chest three times.
Rescue forces called to the scene provided medical treatment on the spot and evacuated two people injured in stabbings to Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus and Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, including: a 56-year-old man with stab wounds to his upper body and a 17-year-old tourist in mild condition with a superficial stab wound to the abdomen. In addition, a 50-year-old woman was evacuated with a panic attack.
The terrorist who carried out the stabbing attack, a 17-year-old resident of East Jerusalem, was arrested near the scene of the attack by security guards and Jerusalem District police and taken for questioning. The knife with which he carried out the attack was seized by the police.
Initial details indicate that the terrorist arrived at the scene by bus and got off at a nearby stop. He went up to the Jaffa Gate promenade and began stabbing. He tried to escape towards Tzahal Square, threw the knife and was arrested by a Mamilla security guard and police officers. He did not struggle or attempt to confront the police officers.
Senior MDA medic Rafi HaCohen, who happened to be at the scene, said: "I was very close to the Jaffa Gate and noticed what was happening. I ran to the scene and saw a man about 50 years old sitting on the sidewalk, bleeding, with several stab wounds. I called additional MDA forces to the scene and at the same time gave him life-saving medical treatment.
""The police chief who was nearby arrived very quickly and helped me bandage the injured man. MDA forces who arrived quickly evacuated the injured man to the hospital while continuing medical treatment. His condition is serious and stable and he is fully conscious. A 17-year-old boy came to us with a superficial wound to the abdomen and after examination and initial treatment, we evacuated him in a minor condition. In addition, he suffered from anxiety.".
MDA paramedic Aaron Steinmitz and MDA emergency medical technician Baruch Weissman: "We arrived at the scene in large numbers and saw the man lying on the sidewalk, fully conscious, with stab wounds to his upper body.
""We immediately provided him with life-saving initial medical treatment, which included stopping the bleeding, bandaging, and evacuated him to the hospital while continuing medical treatment, with his condition serious and stable.".
Nissim Ben Shimol and Shmuel Vladimirsky, United Hatzalah paramedics: "We provided first aid to a 50-year-old man injured by a stabbing. At this stage, his condition is classified as serious. We also provided aid to another minor victim.".
Hadassah Medical Center reported: One injured person from a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem was taken to the trauma unit at Hadassah Mount Scopus.
Dr. Assaf Kedar, director of the trauma unit at Hadassah Mount Scopus, reports that the 56-year-old injured man, who was evacuated by MDA with stab wounds to his upper body, is fully conscious and his condition is apparently described as moderate.
Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Doron Turgeman conducted a situation assessment at the scene of the attack and assigned his investigation to the Jerusalem District's central unit.
