Ukrainian officials will consider in the coming days, and perhaps reach a decision - whether to impose restrictions on the entry of tens of thousands of Breslov Hasidim into Uman ahead of Rosh Hashanah. The reason: Ukrainian anger at Israel.
According to a report this morning (Tuesday) by Amichai Stein on Network B, the decision of the senior officials could even be made today.
In addition, the reason for the restrictions is the disappointment in the circle of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following what they call "only weak support.".
The options being considered by senior officials are a suspension of the visa exemption agreement between Israel and Ukraine, a restriction on gatherings in Uman, or difficulties at the land border crossings through which tens of thousands of immigrants are supposed to enter to commemorate Rabbi Nachman in Uman.
A Ukrainian source said: "Netanyahu didn't even bother to personally congratulate us on Independence Day. A tweet from the Prime Minister's Office Twitter account, late at night - this is not good wishes from a friend.".
As published yesterday in Haredim 10, the Minister of Jerusalem and Israeli Tradition, Meir Porush, sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he made it clear that without his urgent intervention in discussions with the Ukrainian government to arrange the arrival of tens of thousands of travelers for Rosh Hashanah in Uman - "we are facing a serious monetary crisis at the borders.".
Porush wrote in his letter: "The complex political relations between Israel and Ukraine have led to the Ukrainian authorities refusing to cooperate and hold a dialogue on the issue of regulating the passage of passengers in an efficient and safe manner. I fear that without your immediate intervention as Prime Minister to regulate the issue, we will once again find ourselves in a difficult and serious monetary situation in which tens of thousands of Israelis may be forced to wait for long hours in open areas between the border crossings of the countries bordering Ukraine.".
