A 24-year-old resident of Rama, the son of a council head in the north, was arrested last night (Monday) on suspicion of being involved in incidents of violence, shooting, bomb planting, and blackmailing victims from the northern region, with the involvement of a criminal organization from the north.

The arrest was made after investigators from Lahav 433 opened an investigation into a series of violent incidents and extortion through threats in the northern region. The investigation revealed that the main suspect, the son of a council head, had repeatedly attacked, threatened, and extorted money from victims who owed his father money - even though the investigation revealed that the debt had been settled with members of a criminal organization from the north.

The investigation also reveals that, as part of the violent incidents, the suspect was involved in several shooting incidents at the victims' home and planting an explosive device.

Yesterday, the investigation became public with the arrest of the suspect. He was brought to the unit's offices for questioning, after which he was imprisoned.

In a hearing held today at the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court, the suspect's detention was extended by an additional 7 days until August 14, 2023.

The investigation continues.
