The event: Operation Protective Edge
Date: 10th of Tammuz - 30th of Av
He was born on July 8, 2014. He left us on August 26 of the same year.
And his name was called "Protective Shield" in Israel, or affectionately abbreviated as "Tsuki".
As the brother of two older brothers: "Ofri" (Cast Lead) and "Amudi" (Pillar of Cloud), "Zuki" resembled his older brothers in personality.
Assertiveness, adventurism, hesitation, courage, fortitude, cowardice, heroism, unity, and defeatism were all used in him in an unbridled mix. At moments it seemed as if he was gathering courage, attacking, crushing, and going all the way, and the next moment he was already folding up, fleeing, panting heavily, tired, and sweaty.
Some hoped that this time, unlike his brother, our 'Tsuki' would actually reap impressive achievements, lead new moves, and shower us all with a safe, relaxed, and calm reality. "This time," the uniform spokesman promised, the taxi driver swore, the green newspaper reported, the grandmother from Sderot hoped, the politician declared, the announcer clarified, "this time, it's all the way.".
inaccurate!
The Iron Dome, which folded too early, and left its place with the recklessness of a first-grade student hearing a bell for the first time in his life, succeeded in intercepting mainly the optimism, illusion, and faith of the brave-hearted and hard-nosed residents of the South.
Everything was recycled and full of clichés. The reports from the field, the warnings from the Home Front Command, the statements from politicians, the condemnation of the world, and even the jokes... everything was recycled and presented to the Israeli public in plastic bags - the kind that make a noise like new.
Now it's clear to everyone: "Tsuki" reminds us of the two big brothers. He resembles them as two drops of water. Or rockets.
""Tsuki" emerged into the world with a loud noise. "Tsuki" said goodbye to us with a weak, embarrassed sigh.
Despite being only 50 years old (days, not years), "Tsuki" left behind a long, black trail of smoke that continues to rise above the harsh-tongued, soft-spoken generals of the microphones. Much will still be said, told, and described about the exploits of "Tsuki," the younger of the brothers.
Still... 4,594 rockets fired at Israel, 6,231 terrorist targets attacked, 10,590 buildings damaged in Gaza, 11,000 Palestinians injured, 500,000 residents who became refugees, 72 dead on the Israeli side, and 2,203 on the Palestinian side - not walking.
Actually, we don't go at all anymore.
And if we insist on finding one difference between the young "Tsuki" and "Ofri" and "Amudi," then we will have to dig deep, deep, deeper, a little more, just a moment more, oh there... and then discover the tunnels - at least the ones that still remain intact because the IDF did not have time to destroy them.
The dimmed lights from the infernal tunnels were extinguished by rogue rockets that fell on power poles in Gaza. The IDF may have come out of there with extra muscle, or asteroids, but it hasn't yet brought the light at the end of the tunnel with it.
"Our "cliffs"...
We will not forget (even if we wanted to, we couldn't) and we will not forgive (a tunnel is far beyond forgiveness).
