A senior political source clarified today (Tuesday) that in a conversation that took place last night between the Prime Minister and the President of the United States, "Biden explicitly invited Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the White House in Washington." This was reported by Amit Segal on Channel 12.
According to a report by Barak Ravid, the political commentator for the Walla website, a political source said: "President Biden said twice during the conversation with Netanyahu that he expects to see him in the Oval Office soon.".
Earlier this morning, Ravid said on Radio 103 about a possible meeting between President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu: "It won't happen in the summer, it might happen at the UN General Assembly in September. The one who used the term 'invitation to a meeting' is Netanyahu, the White House statement did not mention the word invitation nor the word meeting - there are quite significant differences in versions between the two sides.".
Last night, before President Yitzhak Herzog left for a visit to the United States, Biden spoke with Netanyahu after a four-month break, amid the crisis in relations between the countries, and President Biden's refusal to invite Netanyahu to an official visit to the White House due to the promotion of legal reform.
According to the statement released by Netanyahu's office, the conversation was "warm and long" and Biden invited Netanyahu "to a close meeting in the United States.".
A statement from the White House said: "Biden stressed to Netanyahu the importance of legislative agreements," and also expressed his concern about the expansion of settlements. It was also reported that Biden emphasized to Netanyahu the US's support for Israel's security, and that the two will meet "likely before the end of the year.".
Meanwhile, President Herzog landed in Washington this afternoon (Israeli time) and was received by his brother Mike, Israel's ambassador to the US.
Later, Herzog is expected to meet with US President Joe Biden at the White House.
