An honest and decent person is tested by his ability to change his position when the truth becomes clear before his eyes. It is legitimate for people to hold different opinions and viewpoints, and the Sages have already established the rule that "no opinions are equal.".
But all of this is true at a point where there is room for both positions. But there are situations where the light increases and the image becomes clear and sharp.
This is the testing moment when a person must be honest with themselves and be able to admit their mistake. Unfortunately, there are those who lock themselves into the position they have espoused, insisting on saying that day is night and darkness is light.
Decent people have sobered up.
We saw this in the context of the Oslo Accords, which brought the great murderer Arafat and his gang here. At that time, some believed that we should 'give peace a chance.' Perhaps recognizing the terrorist organization would turn it into a dove of peace and we would all live here in peace. 'We have to try,' people said, so that we would know that at least we made every possible effort to achieve peace.
Anyone with eyes in their heads saw the deception and fraud even then. The double-talk - slogans of peace in English and burning hatred in Arabic. Even when Arafat compared the agreement with Israel several times to the 'Hudaybiyah Agreement', the meaning of which is completely clear to every Arab, as a ruse designed to accumulate power in order to destroy the enemy - there were still naive people among us who believed that it was 'lip service' with no meaning for the Arab public.
But when the terrible wave of terror broke out, which cost us more than a thousand lives and thousands more injuries, honest people began to sober up. They realized that we had fallen into a trap, and that the only way to restore security was to return to operating in the territories of Judea and Samaria and eradicate the nests of terror.
We are now at a similar testing point, in a different field, of course.
The facts that are emerging almost daily paint a shocking picture of a power-hungry judicial system that has decided to become a political player and carry out a coup d'état, no less. One can love a particular government and one can think it is bad and a failure, but is it conceivable that this is how a reformed democratic state operates?
so far!
After months of attempts at dialogue, it becomes clear that there is no willingness to make even the most limited agreements. The general public has asked for dialogue and compromise, but here a well-oiled system has emerged whose sole goal is to overthrow the government, and it is putting pressure on politicians not to agree to anything.
It is now completely clear that a powerful group has organized itself here, well-endowed with resources, in advertising and public relations offices, which has decided to do the complete opposite of democracy - to thwart the people's choice through violent means. They are openly telling the elected officials - we will burn the country down and will not allow you to realize the mandate you received.
This is the test point for anyone who considers themselves an honest and decent person. A reformed country cannot conduct itself this way. It is of course permissible to demonstrate and protest, but what right does this group have to threaten to 'burn down the club'? Would the Israeli public accept such behavior from another public - ultra-Orthodox or settlers, for example?
It's time to tell this group with all determination - so far!
