Meir Spiegler, CEO of the Israel Electric Corporation, revealed today (Monday), at the conference of the Association of CEOs and Secretaries of Local Authorities held in Eilat, that "communities with religious residents were not disconnected from the electricity grid so as not to harm them on Shabbat. We connected them to electricity and disconnected other communities.".

It should be noted that, despite his words, Tens of thousands of Haredim were left without electricity In the heavy heat, and remained cut off from electricity for most of Shabbat. Thus, many residents in Bnei Brak, Modi'in Elite, Haredi neighborhoods in Kiryat Malachi and more, reported that there was no electricity in their homes - and that they were forced to eat Shabbat meals in the dark, in the intense heat.

According to a report in Israel Hayom, Spiegler said: "On Friday, there were planned power outages, but it is not possible that certain places are disconnected and others are not. Last Friday, on Shabbat Eve, there were religious people working with electric stoves and appliances, and as soon as there were power outages, the appliances would not turn back on, disrupting their Shabbat - therefore, a firm order was issued to connect all those communities where a religious majority lives to the electricity grid before Shabbat, and to disconnect other places in the country from the electricity grid.".

Spiegler added that various parts of the south of the country where there are dairy farms were also connected to the electricity supply - to prevent the animals from dying - and as a result, other places were cut off.

Labor Party Chairwoman Merav Michaeli, who never misses an opportunity to incite against the Haredi, tweeted: "Who gave the order on Friday to disconnect communities with a secular majority from electricity and connect communities with a religious and Haredi majority to electricity? How exactly was the identity of the community checked? Will from now on eligibility for an electricity connection be based on the size of the dome and the sabbath? Or perhaps based on the percentage of votes for the coalition parties? A bunch of imbeciles who are incapable of running an economy...""
