Surprising revelation: News 12 commentator Amit Segal revealed this evening [Wednesday] that prior to Attorney General Bar-Rav-Miara's decision to postpone a mediation process in Prime Minister Netanyahu's trial, there was another and unusual attempt by the judges in the trial to convince her otherwise.
Details from the closed hearing held on the matter revealed that before the Attorney General's refusal, the three judges urged the parties to go to mediation. About two weeks ago, the judges held a meeting in which they called on both sides to consider mediation in the thousands of cases.
According to the legal interpretation - despite the fact that mediation in the case is not the ideal thing for both parties in a case that has been going on for three years, the very fact that the judges made it clear to the parties that it would be beneficial for them to reach mediation and end the trial that has been going on and on - and even before it is clear how much longer it will last, means that the judges are telling the parties to assess the risks of continuing the trial.
As you may recall, earlier this week the Attorney General informed the court that she opposes criminal mediation in the thousands of cases. Baharav-Miara informed the court and the Prime Minister's attorney that she opposes criminal mediation, because it is possible that criminal mediation would halt the trial.
In the case, she even met with lawyers and defense attorneys who tried to convince her to agree to mediation - but she ultimately decided to refuse.
