Bad news for Uman travelers: The Airports Authority workers' committee will strike Ben Gurion Airport tomorrow [Thursday] between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The reason: The committee chose to sympathize with the postal workers who are threatened with layoffs. The Histadrut announced today (Wednesday) that starting tomorrow, tax collection by mail will cease and transfer of ownership of cars will not be allowed. Now, as mentioned, Airports Authority workers are joining them.
The announcement of the strike was made by the Aviation Authority employees' committee headed by Chairman Pinchas Idan. As part of the shutdown, aircraft takeoffs will not be allowed, and passengers landing at the airport will not receive luggage.
Idan said that "it is not possible for the state to fire 1,500 employees and take on disadvantaged workers and contractor workers in their place.".
The Airports Authority said that such short notice of a strike at Ben Gurion Airport would encourage all parties involved in the postal issue to come together to find a solution.
It should be noted that the strike at the airport comes at a particularly sensitive time. These days, tens of thousands of Israelis are traveling to Ukraine to participate in Rosh Hashanah prayers on the anniversary of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, and the strike will hinder the flow of passengers.
In addition, Israeli tourism is only now recovering from the damage of the recent war in Gaza, which severely hit the industry.
