Upon receiving the report, Northern District police arrived at the scene and began an initial investigation, which revealed that when the suspect was walking around the synagogue, he was asked by one of those present whether he could be helped.
In response, he said that he was looking for Rabbi Kook with the aim of harming him.
When that man tried to escort the suspect out, he pulled a knife out of his pocket - and threatened to hurt him too.
After the intervention of bystanders, the suspect got into the car and fled without the knife, which remained in the synagogue and was taken by the police.
The police carried out rapid operations to identify and locate the suspect, and within a short time he was located at the city hospital.
The suspect, 49 years old, a resident of Tiberias, was arrested.
He will be brought in for questioning at the Tiberias police station, after receiving medical treatment.
