Crane collapse disaster: Today at noon, while search operations continued, forces were able to locate a human body that is still trapped among the rubble, and rescue efforts are continuing.

The extensive and complex search efforts began about 5 weeks ago, with the disaster in which the crane collapsed into the sea, and they have continued under the command of Lt. Col. Meir Hachmon, commander of the Ashkelon station, over the past few weeks.

As part of the search efforts, the Lachish Region Commander, Lt. Col. Roy Waldman, conducted several situation assessments in collaboration with family members, the Israel Electric Corporation, the IDF, MDA, the Israeli Civil Defense, and civilian organizations, with the goal of bringing to the country the best tools and resources capable of working in the difficult and complex sea conditions in order to locate the missing person, who, according to the working assumption, was trapped among the wreckage.

Ashkelon Station Commander, Lt. Col. Meir Hachmon: "From the first day of the search, we clearly defined that we, together with the Electric Company and all rescue agencies, would do everything in our power and would not stop until the last of the missing in this difficult and tragic disaster was located. After several weeks of intensive searches, and with the extraordinary participation of civilian agencies, we were able to locate a human body trapped among the rubble, and we are making every effort to rescue it as soon as possible, so that we can complete the final identification work.".

The Israel Electric Corporation stated: "The intensive efforts of the Israel Electric Corporation to locate Nir Dekel, the company employee who has been missing since the crane collapse at the Rotenberg power plant pier on March 13, were fully utilized, when the weather and sea conditions allowed it.".

""At noon today, the body of Nir Dekel was apparently found under the rubble of the crane that collapsed into the water. The operations involved in rescuing him are extremely complex. The Electric Company, with all its employees, mourns the death of Nir Dekel and mourns with his family. Nir's location ends a prolonged period of uncertainty, mental stress and lack of peace for the family and the Electric Company.".
