
But in the courtyard of Arluy: On Saturday, the late Rabbi Shimon Sofer, Av Beit Din of 'Torat Moshe Erlui' in Safed, passed away at the age of 71 - after a serious illness.

In recent years he had been ill. On Shabbat his condition deteriorated and towards the end of Shabbat he died at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem.
The late zt"l was born in Jerusalem in the month of Tishrei 5772 to his father, the Rebbe Rabbi Yochanan Sofer zt"l, author of the 'Imri Sofer' from Eraloi, sixth generation of the 'Chatam Sofer'.
In his youth, he studied at the Ohel Shimon Yeshiva in Arluy, with his father, zt"l. When he reached his adulthood, he married his wife, the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yosef Tziner, zt"l.
He stood by his father in the establishment and development of Arlui institutions, and for years served as rabbi of the Baka neighborhood. Over the years, his father, the Rebbe, appointed him as rabbi of the 'Torat Moshe' seminary of the Arlui Hasidim in Safed, where he led the seminary and the community after his father's passing.
He left behind a blessed generation of righteous people: sons and daughters, sons-in-law and many descendants who continue in his path - including his son and successor, Rabbi Moshe Sofer, and his son, Rabbi Gabriel Yaakov Sofer. Among his sons-in-law: Rabbi Yosef Sofer, Av Beit Din of the Temesvor communities and the rabbi of the Hasidic community of Ma'alot Dafna, Jerusalem, and his son-in-law Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Rosenbaum, son of the Rebbe of Linsk and Av Beit Din of Eruvin.
His brothers: the Rebbe of Erlui, Rabbi Yaakov, rabbi of the 'Ketva Sofer' community in Beitar Illit, the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyamin, Rosh Yeshiva of 'Ohel Shimon - Erlui', Rabbi Akiva, rabbi of the Erlui community in Bnei Brak, Rabbi Zalman, rabbi of the Erlui community in Borough Park, and Rabbi Aharon, rabbi of the Erlui community in Elad.
The funeral procession will leave this evening from the large Beit Midrash of the Arlaui Hasidic community in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem for Mount Hamunehot, where he will be buried.
